“Hey, I’m so sorry babe I’m gonna be home a little later tonight”

“Oh that’s alright, don’t worry about me, I’m just calling to tell you food’s in the fridge, and the kids are already asleep”

“Oh…that’s all”

“Yea, were you expecting something else?”

“No, it’s just I- I was just kinda worried because I was late again”

“It’s fine. I know how work can get. I’ll see you later, goodnight. Love you.”

“Okay then. Love you too.”

I got off the phone with my husband and let out a depressed sigh. God, I swear it feels like I’m holding my breath, just to talk to him. It’s not like I’m hiding anything serious. It’s just he doesn’t surprise me anymore. Everything’s great, but I feel horrible about how bored I am. Day in and day out it’s always the same thing, and now it’s suffocating me just trying to hide how fucking bored I am. I guess I could try talking to him.

Maybe I can-, before I could finish the thought I felt something yank my bag so hard my shoulder almost popped out of it’s socket. I turned just in time to catch my bag by the handle and found myself looking at a masked man. He was trying to steal my purse. Oh my god! Im getting fucking mugged. I yanked my bag. “What are you doing?” I screamed. “Just give me the bag, I don’t want to hurt you.” He said as he tried to yank the bag away from me. His voice was oddly soft for a mugger, but he yanked the bag so hard I thought it was gonna rip.

“No!” I yelled. I wanted to keep screaming but holding on to the bag was hard enough. I yanked back but my arms were losing strength quickly. He yanked back even harder and I completely lost all my strength. I couldn’t even stop myself from getting pulled into him. I refused to let go, so my feet were picked up off the ground and I basically flew at him. My head bumped into his chest, and before I realized it, I was face to face with him.

He put his hand on my head and asked, “Are you alright?” “No! Don’t touch me.” I responded and instead of using the strength left in my arms I tried to run off with the bag using the strength in my legs. It seemed like a good idea as I tried to sprint away, but by the time I took my third step my legs were ahead of me, and with my hand still clutching the bag, I ended up tossing myself to the floor.

“Lady please? You’re making this harder than it has to be.” He said to me as he bent over to look down at me. I was laying face up in defeat. My arm was still outstretched so I could hold onto the bag, and when I looked up at him the way the light hit his eyes made them seem kinda pretty. I couldn’t help but laugh in that moment. I let go of the bag, dropped my arm, and just kept laughing. Even when he walked away with my bag and left me laying there, I just kept laughing.
